Year 1 are Scientists

This week is British Science Week. On Thursday we are going to be carrying out lots of exciting science experiments in different classes. We were amazed at all the scientists that came to school on Monday – we looked fantastic! We were also excited to see all the fabulous science experiments and inventions brought in from home – from chocolate pasta to battery potatoes!

Have a look at some of our amazing inventions.

Remember we are all Scientists!

Skipton Castle October 2017

Year 1 had a fabulour time last week on our trip to Skiption Castle. We learnt all about what it must have felt like to have been a soldier defending the castle or a Lord or Lady living in the castle. We also found out what it must have been like to be a prisoner in the dungeon! Very scary!

What did you learn? What was your favourite part of the trip? Add a comment to our blog. Photographs to be added soon!

Year one investigate plants

as part of our science topic, today Year one have been learning all about parts of plants. We looked closely at daffodils and pulled all the parts away to look at the different sections of the plants. We worked in teams to make our own plants out of play doh, each person in the group was responsible for a different part of the plant. We then drew and labelled parts of plants. We are now plant experts!

Hope you enjoy looking at our photographs below

Our fabulous trip to Blue Planet Aquarium

Year 1 had a fabulous time when we went on our trip to the aquarium. We saw so many different species of fish including sharks and sting rays. We also say an octopus some sea horses and some crabs.

We were very excited to touch a living starfish, Mrs Howarth was not very keen though!!

Have a look at a sample of our photographs. What was your favourite part of the day?

shapes, shapes, shapes!

This week in maths we have been learning all about 3D shapes and 2D shapes. Can you have a shape hunt around your home? Which 2D shapes can you find? Which 3D shapes can you find?

Try to take a photograph and upload it to our class blog so we can look at the shapes together.

Happy hunting!
